Today let’s look at a passage of scripture that I’m sure we’ve all read before, but have never really meditated on. I’m going to show it to you in many different translations so you can see it. Try reading them out loud. Let your ears hear the Word. As we all know faith comes by hearing. That doesn’t just apply when the preacher is preaching on Sunday’s. This applies whenever we hear the Word of God.
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. (Philippians 4:6 KJV)
Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God. (Philippians 4:6 AMP)
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. (Philippians 4:6 NLT)
Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. (Philippians 4:6 MSG)
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (Philippians 4:6 NIV)
In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. (Philippians 4:6 WEB)
For nothing, be anxious, but, in everything, by your prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let, your petitions, be made known unto God; (Rotherham)
Did you read them out loud? I hope you did. Go back and read them again. Did you see the instructions given to us to do instead of worrying? 3 instructions were given. Have you ever paid attention to that before? The bible is full of instructions that if we would slow down long enough to follow we would see the manifestation of the things we hope for.
The scripture says by prayer and petition with thanksgiving let out requests be known to God.
Prayer by definition means :a solemn request for help or expression of thanks addressed to God
Petition by definition means: make or present a formal request to (an authority) with respect to a particular cause.
As you can see prayer and petition are two very different things. Jerry Savelle has written a very good book called “The Prayer of Petition” it is wonderful. Not only does he explain it so that the reader will understand but he gives examples of Prayers of Petition that he and his wife have used throughout the years. This book has helped me and my husband write out our own prayers of petitions for things that we are believing God for. Something’s have been answered and we received the manifestation of and something’s we are still waiting for.
But let’s not forget the third instruction- Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving by definition means :the expression of gratitude, esp. to God
How awesome is that? A complete recipe for what to do instead of worrying and getting anxious.
If we look at the next two verses it tells you what will happen if we follow the instructions in verse 6.
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7 KJV)
You want the peace of God? Follow the instructions. And instead of thinking about the problem, situation or circumstance do the following.
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. (Philippians 4:8 KJV)
The enemy has custom designed the challenges of this world to steal our peace. Don’t give it to him. he (I meant to use a lower case h to show you how insignificant he is) can’t take your peace you, me, we have to give it to him.
Remember yesterday, we talked about being strong and courageous. Today we have found a recipe on how to actually do it. There is such a wealth of wisdom in Philippians 4. Take some time out and read the whole chapter. (Out loud) faith will come. And so will peace.
Enjoy your day
